In a tangle? Let's fix it.
Answers to the common questions below — and a real person behind the email if they don't cover yours.
Getting started
Do I need an account?
No. There is nothing to sign up for and no password to invent. Little Knots uses the iCloud account your iPhone is already signed into — for backup and syncing only. If you're not signed into iCloud, the app still works; memories then live only on that device.
How do I add a memory?
Look for the loose end of the thread — the dangling + at the newest end of the timeline — and pull it. Pick a moment from the catalog (or write your own), add a date, a note, a photo or video if you like, and tie it off. The new knot slides onto the thread with a little ceremony.
How do I add my child?
The Family tab → Add child. A name is enough to start; birthday (or due date — pregnancy milestones are in there too), a photo, and a thread color are all optional and can come later. The free version includes one child; more children are part of Little Knots Pro.
We're expecting — is it too early to start?
Not at all. Add your child as “on the way” and the catalog starts at Found out we were expecting, Heard the heartbeat, and friends. Their thread simply begins before they do.
Memories, dates & catching up
I'm months (fine — years) behind. Can I backfill?
Yes — that's what Catch up is for. Open it from your child's card and work through the checklist, or quick-add a batch in one sitting. The timeline doesn't care when you wrote it down, only when it happened.
I don't remember the exact date. What do I put?
A vague date is a first-class citizen in Little Knots. Every memory's date has a precision — exact day, a month, or just a year — so “sometime in May” or “2024, roughly” is stored honestly and displayed that way, instead of pretending to a day you invented.
What about photos and videos?
Photos are free and unlimited, attached straight from the system photo picker (the app only ever sees what you select). Video attachments are part of Pro — clips up to 30 seconds, compressed sensibly so they sync quickly and don't eat your iCloud storage.
Can I record things my child says?
The Quotes tab is exactly that: a wall for the accidental poetry. Add the line, who said it, and when — Little Knots keeps their age at the time next to it, which is where half the comedy lives.
Sharing with your partner & family
How does sharing work?
Sharing (a Pro feature) uses Apple's iCloud sharing under the hood — the same machinery as a shared Photos album. From Settings in the app, send an invite link to your partner. Once they accept on their iPhone, you both see — and both add to — the same thread. Memories either of you ties appear for the other automatically.
You can also invite grandparents or godparents to follow along without editing.
What does my partner need?
- An iPhone with Little Knots installed (the app itself is a free download),
- signed into their own iCloud account, with iCloud Drive turned on.
Only the person who created the family needs Pro to start sharing.
My partner accepted, but nothing is showing up.
The very first sync can take a minute or two while iCloud moves everything across — leave the app open and give it a moment, ideally on Wi-Fi. If it still looks empty after a few minutes:
- Check both phones are signed into iCloud (Settings → your name) with iCloud Drive on.
- Check neither phone is in Low Data Mode on a connection that blocks background sync.
- Close and reopen the app on both phones.
Still stuck? Email me — sharing tangles are my top priority.
Can I stop sharing?
Yes, any time, from Settings → Sharing in the app. Participants lose access to the shared thread. Anything you created stays with you.
Little Knots Pro & purchases
What's free, and what's Pro?
Free, forever: one child, unlimited memories and quotes, unlimited photos, the full catalog, Catch up, the widget, and reminders. No ads, no time limit.
Pro adds: unlimited children, video attachments, partner & family sharing, thread styles, and the Linen, Petal & Meadow paper themes.
What plans are there?
Weekly, monthly, or yearly subscriptions — or a one-time lifetime purchase if subscriptions aren't your thing. Prices are shown in the app in your local currency. Every plan works with Apple Family Sharing, so one purchase covers your household.
What happens if I cancel?
You keep Pro until the period you paid for ends. After that, everything you've saved stays — every child, video, and shared memory remains visible and editable. Lapsing only stops you from starting new Pro things (adding another child, attaching new video, sending new invites). Your memories are never held hostage.
How do I cancel or manage my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple: iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Little Knots. Or from inside the app: Settings → Little Knots Pro → Manage subscription.
I bought Pro but the app doesn't show it.
Open the app's Settings and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure the phone is signed into the same Apple Account that bought Pro. If a family member bought it, check that purchase sharing is on in Apple Family Sharing. Still off? Email me.
Can I get a refund?
App Store purchases are refunded by Apple, not by developers — request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. If something in the app pushed you to a refund, I'd genuinely like to know what went wrong.
Your data
Where do my memories actually live?
On your iPhone, and — when you're signed into iCloud — in your personal iCloud account, encrypted by Apple. There are no Little Knots servers and no developer access. The privacy policy is short and worth the two minutes.
New phone — will my memories come back?
Yes. Sign the new iPhone into the same iCloud account, install Little Knots, and the thread re-appears on first launch (give a big library a few minutes on Wi-Fi).
How do I delete everything?
Delete memories or children in the app (deletions sync everywhere), and remove the app's iCloud data under iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Little Knots. Deleting the app itself removes what's stored on the device.
Odds & ends
How do I add the widget?
Long-press your Home Screen → tap the + → search for Little Knots → pick a size. It keeps a recent memory within thumb's reach.
Reminders aren't arriving.
Check the toggle in the app's Settings, then iOS Settings → Notifications → Little Knots → Allow Notifications. If you previously declined the permission, the app will point you to the right Settings screen when you flip the toggle back on.
Which devices does it run on?
Little Knots is designed for iPhone and requires iOS 26 or later. It follows your system's light or dark appearance — dark mode is ink & glow, and rather lovely, if we may.
I found a bug. Do you want to hear about it?
Very much. Email me what happened and what you expected — a screenshot helps. Bugs in a memories app deserve fast funerals.
Still knotted up?
Write to me and I'll untangle it with you. Include your iOS version and roughly what happened — I answer every email myself.
